You can discover the island of Texel very well through sport!
We have a large number of clubs in all facets of sport, football, shooting, racket sports, ball sports, water sports, cycling, you name it. In addition, various (unique) sports events are organised throughout the year. I myself was an avid runner and looked forward to the Texel Half Marathon every year. Signing up for the half marathon in September is not easy, as the event is so popular that starting places are usually gone within an hour. This is partly due to the special start, from the Texel boat. During the crossing, the runners are nervously stretching and catching up on the car deck kept specially for them. After mooring at 't Hoorntje, the ship's horn sounds and participants stream onto the island for a special journey.
I can absolutely recommend coming (back) to Texel with a group of friends or a company. At Teambuilding Texel, the sporting activities and outings are endless. Think powerkiting, survival, archery or droppings. Do you like it even more extreme? Then take a lesson in kite- and/or windsurfing! Fire kayaking and rafting are my favourites but blokarting will also give you an unforgettable experience. Would you rather take it slower? Fortunately, there are other ways to explore the North Sea. Hire a surf or sup board on a beautiful day. Are you not a water rat and would rather enjoy Texel on foot? If you like hiking, Texel is the place to be. The island has numerous beautiful routes through nature. Think of the Slufter, the Nederlanden and the Hors. Walking through these nature reserves is pure enjoyment! Maps showing the routes are available at our reception. Hiking trips are also organised regularly, see here for more information.
Surely the most special way to explore Texel is from the air. Did you know that as a guest of Texelvakanties you can book an introductory flight in a glider for only €75? Drop by reception for more information. Once in the air, it's all about finding the rising warm air (thermals) and then staying suspended in the air for as long as possible. An unforgettable experience, guaranteed! Surely another ultimate bucket list item is a tandem skydive over Texel. The Tandem Skydive is the easiest way to get acquainted with skydiving. You need to do almost nothing, just a dose of courage and motivation are enough. p a height of at least three kilometres, the door slides open and together with the Tandem Master you fall down at a speed of about 200 kilometres per hour. Book here.
Do you prefer watching sports? Even then, Texel has plenty to offer. Everyone knows by now the largest catamaran event in the world. The Round Texel Race is held every year on a Saturday in June at paal 17. In the week preceding the race, there are already various races and trips from the beach. The event has been around for more than 40 years and attracts many thousands of visitors. The international list of participants includes many famous sailors. Different types of boats compete against each other using a 'Texel rating', a handicap calculation, which means the first one to round the island is not automatically the winner. Every year, the event is combined with music and other activities, but the 42nd edition will be different from other years. Waves. Sport, Music and more. From freestyle kite competitions and the music of Nielson to various surf and beach clinics. This unique new event was conceived by none other than our two-time Olympic and world windsurfing champion, Dorian van Rijsselberghe.
Personally, I prefer to get on my road bike 4-5 times a week (in winter on the trainer with Zwift) to put in training hours and enjoy the diversity of Texel. Almost every Sunday, the island round is on the training schedule, a 65km+ lap where I enjoy dunes, forest, polders, dykes and the beach. Are you hooking up with a racing bike? Rent a road bike at van der Linde. As a guest of ours, it is possible to rent your bikes in advance. If you reserve the bikes well in advance, you have the option of having them delivered and collected from your holiday accommodation. The bikes will then be ready and waiting for you upon arrival at your rented accommodation.
My tip: Discover Texel through sport!
See you soon
